Take a Hike for Humanity 2010 was a success with over 300 hikers raising over $30,000 for Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.  Thank you to all who hiked, sponsored a hiker, or volunteered to help make this event a success.  Your contributions help Habitat for Humanity on the goal of eliminating poverty housing.

Getting Ready for Blue Hills on Saturday

Final preparations are underway for the hike on Saturday, June 5, at Blue Hills Reservation.

There are various trails available with differing lengths and levels of difficulty.

Registration is from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Directions to the Houghton Pond Visitor Center:

  1. From I-93, take Exit 2 (Route 138 North)
  2. Head North on Washington St/Route 138
  3. Take a right at the light onto Blue Hill River Road.
  4. Note: Blue Hill Road changes names to Hillside Street
  5. After about 1 1/4 miles, turn right into the parking lot near the Houghton Pond Visitor Center.

Monadnock a Success, Next Stop Blue Hills

About 250 hikers came out to Mt. Monadnock on Saturday in support of Habitat for Humanity affiliates.  We had glorious weather for the event and we thank all who participated.  So far the total fund-raising has surpassed $20,000.

We’re now shifting focus to gear up for the June 5 Take a Hike for Humanity event at Blue Hills Reservation in Milton, MA.  Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Getting Ready for Mt. Monadnock on Saturday

We’re gearing up to come out and hike Mt. Monadnock on Saturday.  Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.   Many hikers pack a lunch to eat when they reach the peak.

Remember that Mt. Monadnock State Park does not allow dogs or other pets.

Check-in: 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Enter the park through the main entrance on Poole Road.  After paying the $4 park entrance fee ($2 for children 6-11), head to our big registration tent.  Check-in and turn in any cash or check donations along with your signed waiver form.

We will have some water and snacks in the registration tent.  Mt. Monadnock is a carry-in, carry-out park.  Please be respectful of the park grounds and do not litter.

We’re looking forward to a great day and a great event.  Thank you to all for coming out in support of Habitat for Humanity.
